Applying that to GW2, your Display Name should be just a name that's shown when the systems want to show stuff to (other) players and/or to GW2 staff, and all the "linkage" should be done with the hidden identifier. In this schema, the Display Name can be changed freely because it's just cosmetic.

Technically yes but it requires a Gemstore (ie real money) item. Otherwise, if you havenโt made any progress in the game, itโs probably better to just delete and make a new character. Gems can be bought through Gold though. So you don't have to spend real money. For beginners though it is a ton of Gold.
